How Tap to Pay works

Modern iPhones and Android phones ship with the same NFC chip used in payment terminals. Tap to Pay unlocks it through certified software so the phone itself reads the card, encrypts the data, and sends it to HL Hunt for authorization. The card number never touches your device in readable form, and PCI scope stays with us.

Pricing

Tap to Pay carries the same published rate as every other card-present payment on HL Hunt: 2.99% + $0.30 per transaction. There is no hardware to buy, no app fee, no monthly fee, and no per-device license. Volume pricing is available above $250,000 a month.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to buy a card reader?

No. Tap to Pay uses the NFC chip already in your iPhone or Android phone. There is nothing to buy, charge, or pair.

Is Tap to Pay secure?

Yes. Card data is encrypted by the phone's secure hardware the moment it is read and is never stored on your device. Tap to Pay is certified by Apple, Google, and the card networks, and HL Hunt is PCI DSS Level 1.

What does Tap to Pay cost?

The same as any card-present payment: 2.99% + $0.30. No hardware, monthly, or per-device fees.

How fast do I get my money?

Same-day settlement is available on every account, with next business day as the default. Instant payouts to a debit card cost 1.0%.

Can my customer tip?

Yes. Turn on tipping and the customer sees preset percentages or a custom amount before they tap.

Does it work offline?

Tap to Pay requires a data connection to authorize. If you lose signal, the app queues the sale and prompts you to retry.

Can I accept chip or swipe cards?

Tap to Pay is contactless only. For chip or magstripe you can pair an HL Hunt reader, or key the card into the virtual terminal.
